The documents published in this volume tell the story of the development of the railway from a legal, commercial, engineering and human perspective. Roland Winn promoted the line not as a railway pioneer or enthusiast but to exploit the ironstone underlying his land. The Trent, Ancholme and Grimsby railway was never really independent and had a short life. It was vested in the Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway in 1882. This volume has much to offer to local historians as it does to the railway enthusiast and transport historians.
