In addition to the text of the proceedings the strength of this volume is in its long introduction. This is a text on county and parish law in the 17th century. There are 64 entries in the contents list for the Introduction. There are sections describing the duties of the county law officers, the county gaol and the operation of the quarter sessions. At the parish level there are entries concerning the duties of the various parish officers, maintenance of roads and bridges and poor relief. The Tudor poor laws are described in some detail and there are sections on recusancy and nonconformity.
